Mexican Red Wolf

At first Red Wolves were thought to just be a subspecies, or color phase of some more common wolf species. Then it was thought they were extinct. When several living wolves were found a program was begun to reintroduce them to their former range. Some were released in the Gila Forest near where I live. I haven't seen any - but I have heard them!
