Also called American Staffordshire Terrier (although some people contend they are different breeds) this particular breed of dog is a source of much controversy. Bred for generations to compete in the illegal "sport" of dog fighting, these dogs can also be loving family companions and staunch defenders of the home. Even that has been twisted by certain people who have used this courageous defensiveness to defend their own illegal activities. Because of this, many people and localities have begun to outlaw owning the breed. Just in my humble opinion, we need to punish the people who abuse them, not the breed of dogs they are misusing. Let's put the responsibility - and if necessary, the blame - where it belongs, on the dog owners, not the dogs.
