Up until today the Quoll was just another entry in the long list of animals you can have at SandboxFarm to me. Then I looked them up.
OMIGOD they are so cute they should be ILLEGAL. However, since they are also considered apex predators, and are relatives of the Tasmanian Devil I suspect they really hate it when people go – OMG CUUUUTE – and tend to bite. Below are the thumbnails of the two new Quoll coloring pages. For the purist, these are Tiger Quolls – identifiable by the spots on their tails.
As always click on the thumbnails or the links to go to the coloring pages.

I’m running a little late today – but we got here. Fall and spring bring migrating Peregrine Falcons to the ranch out in the desert. The ranch is home to a huge population of Eurasian Ring Necked Doves. The falcons stop by and thin them out a bit twice a year! Because of this I’ve had a couple of thrilling close encounters with these little speed demons – the last only a couple of weeks ago. Their striped undersides are striking – and the last sight many a dove ever has. As always click on the thumbnail or the link below for the full size coloring page.

The little Ocelot breaks every rule about the spotted wild cats I’ve been drawing lately. They have solid spots – AND rosettes – AND some rosettes have dots in the center – AND to top it all off, their spots seem to neatly arrange themselves into, well, more or less stripes. Ocelots are about the same size as a large housecat – and like our domestic cats they apparently do not think rules should apply to them

This isn’t the only art I’ve done today, check out “Ocean on my Window” over at Foovay’s Cauldron.
If I keep going as I have been with one to four coloring pages today until the end of April, there is a very good possibility I’m going to have to change all my headings to say “Over FIVE HUNDRED original coloring pages”. Cool!

I’ve spent much of today looking at wonderful photos of Newfoundland dogs and reading about the breed. I was disappointed in that I couldn’t find a photo of them at work – or at least not a good enough photo to use for a reference of Newfies drawing a cart, or far more important, working as a SAR dog or even swimming. The Newfoundland dog is most famous as a rescuer of drowning sailors – or anyone else who has a water mishap. I’m enough of a perfectionist that I won’t work without some sort of reference, so I hope you are willing to settle for this standing Newfoundland dog, and one of the irresistible fuzzy Newfie puppies!

This is M in the April A to Z blogging challenge. I’m sorry, I had to remove the widget that would take you to the next blog – it was somehow interfering with the other widgets? Weird.
I have faced my fears again, and created three new spring themed mandalas for you to color! If I can create mandalas, you can, too. Read this lens to find out how. Meanwhile – enjoy these three spring mandalas featuring designed inspired by butterfly wings, mother goddess (Ostara), and spring lilies. As always you can go to the full size coloring page by clicking on the thumbnails, or the links below.

This is L in the April A to Z Blogging Challenge
I noticed some time ago that Color-Your-Own.com has one woeful deficit – no reptile or amphibean coloring pages! and I do not understand that, since I myself happen to really like reptiles and amphibeans. I guess people ask me more for the fluffy friendly type creatures!
So for the “L” blog I’d like to finally add some lizard coloring pages! I picked two of my favorite lizards to add first. The Desert Grassland Whiptail Lizard is the State Lizard of New Mexico We have tons of them out at the ranch during the warm months – but I love them most in the spring when their colors are fresh and new. These lizards have bright turquoise blue tails, and the youngs ones have blue on the head as well. I’ve included a link on the coloring page to a photo and article so you can read more about them. The other new lizard is one that is familiar to many people, also native to the Southwest U.S.A. although we don’t have them in New Mexico – the closest Gila Monsters to us would be in Arizona. You may use these links or click on the thumbnails to get to the new lizard coloring pages. Enjoy!

This is the K post for the April A to Z Blogging Challenge

How many of you knew I love to kayak and birdwatch? Both are some of my favorite things to do. I can’t wait until the water is warm enough around here to get the kayak out! One thing I love about kayaking is the wildlife and birds seem to not think you are a threat – they will let you get much closer in a kayak than they ever would if you were on foot. I hope I captured some of that peace and serenity I love in this coloring page of summer kayaking and bird watching. You can find more Summer coloring pages for all ages at this link.

This is J in the April A to Z Blogging Challenge
I thought for J I’d choose between the “J” animals at SandboxFarm since the players there were some of my first and best users of Color-Your-Own.com. I had Jackal, Jaguar, Jerboa, and Jellyfish to choose from. I looked a jellyfish but they have this ethereal beauty that I think would have to be captured in something like velvet painting – neon colors on black – LOL. Jerboas were cute, but the cutest was the Long Eared Jerboa, and we don’t have that one on SandboxFarm. I can, however, remedy that next time I buy tokens
I’ve already done Jaguars. So that left Jackals.
And then I went looking at Jackals and found myself enchanted. They have that same wry, humorous “I am SO up to something” look that our delightfully obnoxious coyotes have here in the southwest. I’m hooked. I hope you like them, too.

Black-backed Jackals reside in Africa – click here or the thumbnail for the coloring page
Golden Jackals, also called Indian Jackals, live in India – click here or on the thumbnail for the coloring page
Yep, I’m plugging my favorite game a lot. It needs some new blood. I think the problem may be that it is marketed to children as mmorpg when it is really more of an adults sim game. You should try it

See, I told you we’d get back to Ireland! Interestingly enough, when looking for Irish “livestock” I found only one pony breed, one horse breed (I think there are more that are likely classified as “types” rather than breeds – I’m not done with that yet!), no cat, but a good many dogs! Terriers, gun dogs and probably the best known of all – their national dog in fact – the Irish Wolfhound.
Now I’m partial to the Wolfhound myself – because if you know me, you know I love the sight hounds or gaze hounds as they are often called these days. So – no aspersions on the beautiful setters or terriers – but I’ll work them in later. Here are a couple of Irish Wolfhound coloring pages.

This post is H in the April A to Z Blogging challenge.
When I first set up Color-Your-Own.com with a few line drawings I had laying around, and a few I did for friends the purpose of those drawings were to color them and use them for graphics at certain games, like SandboxFarms, where I still play. Obviously the site has grown and evolved and taken on a life on it’s own, which you can read about Line Art on the Internet. Most of those early drawings were horses and dogs, as they are probably the most common animals on the games. Horses and dogs are still in the majority of the over 400 drawings on the site and probably always will be, although you guys have broadened my horizons
and I thank you.
This is why the earliest horse drawings do not have markings such as spots or socks or blazes – because the users then were advanced enough to include those on their own – and in fact wanted to so they could make the art resemble the animal on the game. Since then I’ve had many requests to provide appaloosas, pintos, and so on with markings drawn in and I’ve changed how I do things a bit.
I intended to do some horses for you today with markings – pintos and apps. BUT I am running out of time. I am headed out to the ranch to hang out with the real horses for a few days and won’t have Internet.
So, how about instead I teach you how to draw your own horses? This lens gives step by step instructions on how I actually draw horses. I’d love it if you would go visit and read it – and especially if you would like to comment about anything else you’d like step-by-step instructions on, such as more advanced lessons for horses in action or head studies or coloration or perhaps other subjects you’d like drawing instructions for.
Because actually – you guys have taught me a lot about what you want and can use – and I appreciate it. Carry on!
