I’ve known for a while that Santa used to ride a white horse but this year I set out to research it a little more, and drew a few new clipart and coloring pages inspired by the myth. So I finally have a new coloring page to share! Click on the thumbnail or go to the Saint Nicholas Coloring Page here.
I think this may be one of the nicest and most detailed coloring pages I have ever created. Using an archival photo as a reference I created this Nez Perce warrior mounted on his Appaloosa horse. The horse shows a typical Tiger Horse type pattern, and has the fine, short mane and tail that the Foundation Appaloosa horses were known for that has since been bred out by the Appaloosa Horse Association breeders who prefered full and long mane and tails. There are a number of breeds now that are descended to various extent from the famous Nez Perce Appaloosa horses. Some of the breeds have changed so much that they no longer even show the prized spotted coats, others have placed their emphasis on keeping the old type with spotted patterns, mottled skin (also shown on this coloring page), and striped hooves. Now and then you’ll even see one with a fine, thin mane and short “rat” tail
I hope you enjoy this Nez Perce Warrior on his Appaloosa Horse Coloring Page.
This new coloring page has me hearing “Jingle Bells” playing in my head. It is a horse drawn sleigh inspired by one of my favorite Currier and Ives prints. You can read more about them by clicking here. They make great Christmas gifts!
Around here, the horses get Christmas treats too – so here is a Christmas coloring page of Santa giving the horse an apple for Christmas.
Finally – a new coloring page! This is an Appaloosa Cross Riding Pony (headstudy) coloring page, done in response to a request. Of course, you know what happens when I start looking at ponies. I always find a couple dozen more I want to draw than I need. So I will probably be adding a few more ponies over the rest of the week.
Sorry I’ve taken so long between new drawings. Adjusting to having an “outside the home” job again has been quite an adventure! Part of the problem, for me, is that the hours have been very irregular. I’m a person who needs a routine. Preferably a routine that includes an hour or so to draw a new coloring page several times a week! Sometime in the next few weeks I will be transferring to a new job in the company that includes a nice, regular shift. Although it will be even more hours, I think in the long run it will seem like I have more time – since I’ll be able to have a routine again. I do appreciate you hanging in with me!
As many of you know, I’m a big fan of BellaSara – the trading cards, the game, the website – the whole idea of bonding the love of horses with positive affirmations and thinking. Today I’d like to share the link for Bella Sara horse Coloring Pages. Go forth and enjoy!
I am having a hard time getting a good Internet connection right now – and it will probably continue to be a problem off and on for the next month as we enjoy our usual windy Spring here in New Mexico. The good news is that while I don’t have Internet, I tend to sit around and draw coloring pages. The bad news is we have to wait for those occassions when I have a good connection to upload them and share them with you.
I also have some extra Bella Sara Trading cards I want to put up for auction at eBay – but again – the connection and weather are preventing me. I’m also going to be painting some eggs to sell for Easter – assuming I can get a connection good enough to list those on ebay, too! Stay tuned and I’ll try and let you know, or you can always check at eBay – my user name is foovay – since I may be able to list and then not have time to blog about it!
If you are interested in seeing more of my artwork, right now I am (trying to) post a daily art from an older sketchbook, the one that traveled with me from Oklahoma to California and back to our new home in New Mexico, in my main blog, Foovay’s Cauldron.
I am now officially giving up on the Internet for a few hours. I’m going to do a few ranch chores, and do some art.
Oh – I also just joined Tagfoot – user name foovay. Looks like fun and quite a few of my Squidoo friends are already there. Come and find me if you are already a member, if not – well I haven’t grabbed the code to recommend folks yet – but what the heck, join anyway.

By request- a fancy new hunter show pony coloring page!
Some of the earliest stories of St. Nicholas, SinterKlaus, Father Christmas or the fellow otherwise known as Santa Claus here in the U.S. have him riding a white horse instead of in a sleigh with reindeer. In some stories, the horse can fly, too!
I’ve always visualized him on a magnificent white Freisan type horse – and why he traded that in for reindeer I’ll never know!
You may notice there is a change to the “print” link at the bottom. It now takes you to a PDF (Adobe) file which will print perfectly on an 8.5 x 11 inch page – regular paper – on any printer. Much better!
Over the next few months I’ll be working on updating the older pages (there are over 300!) to the new printable coloring pages, as well as touching them up. I like to think I’ve gotten better at this over the last five years or so and some of those old drawings make me cringe now. All of the new coloring pages will be set up like this one – so if you have any problems, comments, etc. please let me know!
